Rufford Room Series
This set of work was produced as a commission for the Art at the Arc project at the law firm Geldards’ new office building in Nottingham. Produced for a meeting room called the Rufford room, I was able to use the commission as a vehicle to explore many ideas and sources of inspiration, and plot a course through many diverse texts. A central theme in this series, indeed in my work in general, is the inherent limitations of language. Working with words in the particular ways that I do, layering, fragmenting, juxtaposing texts, focussing attention on the visual dimensions of writing (rhythm, texture, quality of mark, varied materialities) as opposed to its literary content, all of this can potentially point us to aspects of our experience that ultimately resist being pinned down by language.
